Terrorists in Poonch fired shots at security vehicles; no casualties were recorded, but three to five IAF men were hurt.
After terrorists opened fire on their security van on Saturday in Poonch, J&K, three to five Air Force men were injured. According to the officials, the Army and police have sent reinforcements to the region to gather further information after hearing about the shooting from the Sanai hamlet in Surankote. In the Gursai Moori neighborhood of the Medhat sub-division in Poonch, there was a firefight between security personnel and suspected terrorists. The school was a government upper secondary school.
According to a defense official, there was a firing incident, but further information was needed. “Militants attacked a convoy of Indian Air Force vehicles in the Poonch area of J&K, close to Shahsitar. Currently, nearby military forces are conducting search and cordon operations in the region. The IAF claimed in a statement that “the convoy has been secured and further investigation is underway.”
The Rashtriya Rifles unit in the vicinity has initiated searches and a cordon. Inside the air base in the General region close to Shahsitar, the vehicles have been guarded.
Unverified sources said that security personnel retaliated after armed militants opened fire on a MES and IAF vehicle next to the government school.
The EC has postponed the polling in Poonch, which is a portion of the Anantnag-Rajouri-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, for May 25.

Following the security forces’ successful thwarting of a possible infiltration attempt along the International Border in the Samba area, troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) in the Samba sector were placed on high alert earlier.
Early on Wednesday morning, the intruder attempted to reach the BSF barriers on the international border but was shot and killed by the soldiers.
“The watchful BSF forces saw a suspicious activity across the IB in the Samba border area on the intervening night of May 1 and 2, 2024, and they also saw an intruder approaching the BSF barrier. The Border Security Forces stated in an official statement that “the alert troops neutralized one intruder & thwarted the infiltration attempt.”
